Why you should take the plunge and head out on an Outdoor Adventure Coasteering session
The Cornish coast is one of the most beautiful stretches of scenery in the UK. Rich in history, full of wildlife and stunning to look at with each turn offering something different. Coasteering is the activity which makes you leave the serenity of Cornwall’s beaches to head into untouched caves, open stretches of waters and wild beautiful landscapes. Below we have picked out some of the main reasons our past coasteerers loved this activity…
THE EXHILARATING MENTAL AND PHYSICAL EXERCISE
There’s no denying it, Coasteering is physically demanding as you head out into nature’s own ‘gym’. To explore the magnificently rocky coastline, coasteering requires walking, swimming, scrambling, jumping, climbing, possibly some crawling and traversing over rock formations. It has also been well studied how regular exercise can improve your attention, memory and your ability to take in and process information. Being immersed in nature can also help boost your mood and alleviate the stresses of urban life. Studies have shown that exposure to the natural world can also reduce the symptoms of Alzheimer’s, Depression, Anxiety and ADD.
THE TEAM BUILDING OPPORTUNITIES
Coasteering requires you to work together as a team with your family, friends or a group of strangers to challenge and help each other overcome any fears in this adrenaline-fueled environment. This type of activity promotes teamwork, cooperation and bonding with the whole group always feeling closer after the experience with no man left behind.
THE LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Coasteering offers the chance to interact with the cliffs and water and most of the time participants can learn a host of valuable facts about the natural world and coastlines. They will learn about the sea, different cliff formations, varieties of plants and species of wildlife and how to respect and traverse along the coastline without impacting its natural environment.
THE ABILITY TO STRETCH AND WORK ON YOUR CAPABILITIES
Here at Outdoor Adventure, we have two different coasteering sessions; a 12 years + session which operates in low tide and a 15 years + session operating at high tide which is a slightly more difficult course. We know Coasteering isn’t an exam and is not a show of who is best or toughest as everyone will have their own goals and boundaries. Our instructors will gently encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone so you can get the most out yourself while always remembering the main goal of the session is to have fun, try your best and simply enjoy yourself!
