Pro kayaker swaps the waterfalls for sand dunes in epic video
Eric Walter, the 22-year-old German kayaker is used to dropping off some of the biggest waterfalls in the world, but experienced a bit of a change of scenery recently, thanks to Red Bull.
RedBull.com was looking for the most surprising place to send him, so decided to send him to the complete opposite of what he is used to; a desert in Namibia.
Armed with just his paddle and his boat, Walter ended up battling the dunes alongside three world-class paragliders, Jean-Baptiste Chandelier Tim Alongi and Cyrille Marck.
So what did Walter think of his experience? Apparently you don’t have as much control over your vessel as you do on the water, and you go fast. Very fast!
“I was curious to find out how fast I could go and you can actually get quite a lot of speed! I think I went around 60kph,” Walter said of his experience.
“It’s way better to go with paragliders! They helped me to pull the kayak back to the top, thanks to the wind.”
Luckily, if you experience kayaking on our group activity days, school residential trips or family activity holidays, we’ll keep you in the water, under full supervision, and won’t send you to the middle of a desert to try your hand at sand kayaking!
