Climbers document their Everest ascent on Snapchat
Two adventurers have become the first climbers to scale Mount Everest whilst documenting their entire journey on the social media platforms Snapchat and Instagram.
What is perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Cory Richards and Adrian Ballinger completed with climb without supplemental oxygen, which has only been achieved by a handful of mountaineers have managed.
The adventurers have since returned from their trip and have produced a video on their top Snapchat moments on Everest (which you watch at the bottom of the page).
They chronicled their journey using smart phones, a satellite internet connection and the hashtag #everestnofilter.
The broadcast was going well until Ballinger had to quit just shy of the summit as the altitude proved to be too much for his body.
Richards did make it to the summit, but his phone did not, meaning he couldn’t Snapchat the view from the top of the world.
Speaking of their journey, Ballinger said:
“Literally thousands of comments and well-wishers have reminded me about the proud and hard decision I made to turn around just a couple of hundred meters from Everest’s summit without oxygen. They made a dark morning easier. But I failed at my goal. And it hurts and that’s ok.”
We applaud both the guys for their monumental effort, and look forward to seeing more of their adventures in the future!
Climbing is just one of the activities that can be experienced on our residential school trips, group activity days or family activity holidays. With this, you will be able to experience a small slice of what the guys got up to on their ascent, without the waist-deep snow and plunging temperatures!
