Christmas – Spending time with family

Christmas – Spending time with family

Here at Outdoor Adventure we fully appreciate the need to spend time with family, wind down and really relax over Christmas.  Our staff take well-earned time off and find some downtime to do the things they enjoy with their family, whether that’s activity-based, long walks or lazy boxing day movies – it’s all part of Christmas.  Here are some lovely ideas for spending that quality time together.

Visit a Christmas Market

They used to be quite unique but over the last 10 years, most larger towns and cities in the UK have some kind of Christmas market.  From the smell of ginger and mulled wine to the array of local produce there’s so much to take in over a couple of hours.  There’s usually copious amounts of food on offer and lots of stalls with gifts and crafts.  They are beautiful at night with all the Christmas lights and you might just be lucky enough to visit one whilst it’s snowing – then it’s magical.

Christmas swim

We are lucky here in Bude to have the annual Christmas swim on the beach on Christmas day, but if you live near the coast or near a lake why not pop in for a Christmas dip and liven up the day.  There are plenty of safe places such as outdoor pools or Lidos that are great fun for a Christmas family swim.

Long and lazy walks

So we’re not talking massive planned out coastal routes or a march up the moors with grid refs and satnavs at the ready.  Christmas walks can be so lazy and laidback yet still feel the benefit of getting out and going for a good walk.  Just a toddle down to the local river, a walk across the park or a jaunt over the fields – take your time and enjoy it all with friends and family.

 Donate a food/toy box

There are lots of places now that have an appeal to donate a food or toy box for Christmas.  Some hospitals have a scheme where you can drop a box off with toys in it for children who are in hospital over Christmas.  Lots of local food banks have appeals where you can drop a Christmas box off with them and lots of national charities have info on their website.  If you search for Christmas Box Donation you can find loads of info local to where you are.

Arranging a summer holiday

Christmas is the perfect time to start arranging a family summer holiday as you are sat around on boxing day watching movies and eating chocolate you can start planning.  If you are looking for a family activity holiday uk then why not join us in summer 2020.  We have lots of fantastic activities for all the family, great food and all set in a stunning location.
