6 Reasons to Visit Cornwall in September

Some people think that summer is over by September but that is definitely not true in Cornwall and we believe it is one of the best times to visit whether you’re a family, school or group of friends! Here are 6 great reasons why September is a beautiful time to visit Cornwall.

Quieter Cornwall

With the summer crowds gone, September gives visitors the chance to explore a calmer Cornwall and visit popular places with fewer people. The major Cornish hotspots for tourists such as Bude, Newquay, Padstow and St Ives are quieter meaning there plenty of car parking spaces and open spaces to take appreciate Cornwall and its amazing locations without photo-bombers and crowds!

Warmer Waters

Sea temperatures are at their highest in late August and remain comfortably warm throughout September after being warmed up all summer by the sun meaning it’s a great time to head into the sea whether this be for a quick swim in Bude sea pool or a more adventurous bodyboard or surf! You can forget the wetsuit gloves and boots and grab a summer wetsuit and still feel nice and toasty.

Cheaper Holidays

With the school holidays over this usually means that prices of accommodation are cheaper in respect of the lower demand.  This means you’re able to grab yourself a bargain and have a lot more choice in where you want to stay and at a cheaper rate!

Space in Restaurants

We all know Cornwall has some fantastic restaurants, though we often can find that these can often be booked up months in advance in the height of summer. When September hits, the summer crowds thin meaning less demand in the popular restaurants and cafes meaning you are much more likely to get a reservation or walk-in and albeit your food should arrive a lot quicker too!

Festival Galore

September is definitely festival season in Cornwall. All over Cornwall, you can head to a range of amazing festivals such as Truro Food Festival, Newquay Beer Festival, Little Orchard Cider and Music Festival, Newquay Fish Festival, Falmouth Reggae Festival or head to St Ives amazing 14-day September festival! There are also so many other events planned to suit everybody including poetry, art exhibitions and workshops and organized walks.

Swell Time for Surfers

Last but certainly not least, one of our favourite reasons here at Outdoor Adventure why we love September is because of the September swells! We see the long-travelled waves deliver powerful, quality breakers on to our shores so if you’re into surfing like us this is a great time to visit Cornwall as the waves in September tend to be a little more reliable than at other times of the year.

If you would like to try a Bude surf lesson with us here at Outdoor Adventure, find out our times online or call the centre to learn to surf during our favourite time!
