Our local breaks

Our local beaches pick up the best of any swell arriving in the Southwest – the surf is the same as Newquay but without the crowds!

Widemouth Bay has ideal waves for starting out or improving your surfing – you can do a surf check from your bedroom window!

As well as the beaches being uncrowded the water is clean and Widemouth Bay has a Blue Flag Award.

We often go on surfari to show you different breaks. We have 4 within a 15 minute drive of the Centre. This gives a variety of choices as they all work in different swell sizes, wind direction and stages of tide.

Your Surf Coaches

Our coaches are qualified to teach beyond the beginner. Within the team we have level 1, 2 and 3 BSA coaches. They also hold the RLSS beach lifeguard award and are qualified first aiders.

They will give you top tips to get you up on your first wave fast or if you are already surfing they'll fast track your progress and save you the frustration of repeating mistakes.

Group sizes are kept small to ensure you get quality coaching.

As well as experienced coaches they are also good surfers and surf long and short boards on our local hot spots. They are dedicated to surfing and spend winter in places like Indonesia and Sri Lanka .

Surfing Awards

We can train and assess for BSA awards. The Bronze level 1,2 and 3 awards are aimed at the beginner with the Silver award level 1 and 2 as a goal for the improver. You will receive a certificate on successful completion of an award.

Improver skills:

• Efficient paddling techniques
• Getting out the back in larger surf - Duck diving and rolling under waves
• Wave selection
• Angled take-offs
• Trimming your board
• Top and bottom turns
• Beginning cut backs
• Kicking out

Surf awareness

During your stay our coaches give you informal talks on what kit to buy, where to go, swell prediction, surfing etiquette and surf safety.

Equipment

We have a great choice of boards to try – soft skin beginners boards 7,8, and 9 foot and a range of improver minimals from 7 to 8ft as well as a mixture of 9 ft longboards.

Our wetsuits are high quality manufactured by Tiki and Gul.

They include a full range of sizes in both summer and winter steamers.

Join in or do your own thing.

We have our own on site 'Boardriders Bar' with superb range of drinks and music – we organise things to do – BBQ's, beach games and cliff top fires with live music . We also have a great selection of old and new surf videos.

If you want to go out there's loads going on in the area- pub and night club within 5 minutes walk and 4 miles away Bude has lots of pubs and clubs

For those who just want to chill, what better place – with seats on our cliff edge! to sit with a beer and catch the sunset and if your lucky watch the dolphins, or go for a stroll on our beach below!!
