OA Surf School is a British Surfing Association accredited Level 3 centre which has an excellent safety record. We have been a surf school for 26 years and have the expertise and knowledge that only an experienced school can provide.
All our coaches are qualified RLSS/SLSA beach lifeguards and First Aiders as well as being BSA level 1, 2 or 3 coaches who receive ongoing training to improve their qualifications and coaching skills. You can be assured that you will be receiving the highest quality surf tuition available. Our coaches on the beach have a comprehensive First Aid kit and are in phone contact with the Centre. OA Surf School also works closely with the Beach Lifeguards to ensure a safe beach. Widemouth Bay has RNLI Beach Lifeguard Service cover from 30th April to 30th of September. Duty times are 10am to 6pm. The service provides emergency rescue, advice, first aid and contact with the coastguard
Equipment
We use the latest slick bottomed INT softboards from California. These are very forgiving and provide much of the performance of a traditional fibreglass board. As you improve we have a selection of minimals from 7 to 8 foot. We also have 9ft longboards for you to use. Or of course, you can bring along your own board. We also provide high quality, full length wetsuits. Our store contains a full range of sizes of both summer and winter suits. Our equipment maintenance and quarantine system ensure all equipment is in first class condition.
Our Commitment to the Environment
OA Surf School is environmentally aware and proactive. We are on our way to becoming an eco-centre. We work closely with English Nature, The National Trust, The Heritage Coast, and the Marine Conservation Society. We regularly monitor our activities to ensure we are minimising our environmental impact. We consider everything from bird nesting and seal colonies, to taking care not to damage the delicate fauna and flora below certain stages of tide. By taking this approach we can enjoy our amazing beaches with our guests without spoiling them for others. For the benefit of everyone, it is important that everything we do as a company is sustainable.
