Who are these breaks for?

Everyone!

We have the flexibility to cater for people completely new to the activities and for those who already have some experience.

You don't need to be superfit or a good swimmer, just up for loads of new experiences and total fun.

You can make your days as easy or as challenging as you like.

Come as a group or on your own - either way you'll feel welcome, at ease and part of the action!

If you want to go out there’s loads going on in the area- pub and night club within 5 minutes walk and 4 miles away Bude has lots of pubs and clubs.

For those who just want to chill, what better place – with seats on our cliff edge! to sit with a beer and catch the sunset and if your lucky watch the dolphins, or go for a stroll on our beach below!!

Our local breaks

Our local beaches pick up the best of any swell arriving in the Southwest – the surf is the same as Newquay but without the crowds!

Widemouth Bay has ideal waves for starting out or improving your surfing – you can do a surf check from your bedroom window!

As well the beaches being uncrowded the water is clean and Widemouth Bay has a blue flag award.

We often go on surfari to show you different breaks. We have 4 within a 15 minute drive of the Centre. This gives a variety of choices as they all work in different swell sizes, wind direction and stages of tide.

Your surf coaches

Our coaches are qualifed to teach beyond the beginner. Within the team we have level 1, 2 and 3 BSA coaches. They also hold the RLSS beach lifeguard award and are qualified first aiders.

They will give you top tips to get you up on your first wave fast or if you are already surfing they’ll fdast track your progress and save youthe frustration of repeating mistakes.

Group sizes are kept small to ensure you get quality coaching.

As well as experienced coaches they are also good surfers and surf long and short boards on our local hot spots. They are dedicated to surfing and winter in places like Indonesia and Sri Lanka .

Surfing Awards

We can train and assess for BSA awards. The Bronze level 1,2 and 3 awards are aimed at the beginner with the Silver award level 1 and 2 as a goal for the improver. as a through to the Silver You will receive a certificate on successful

completion of an award.

Surf awareness

During your stay our coaches give you informal talks on what kit to buy, where to go, swell prediction, surfing etiquette and surf safety.

Equipment

We have a great choice of boards to try – soft skin beginners boards 7,8, and 9 foot and a range of improver minimals from 7 to 8ft as well as a mixture of 9 ft longboards.

Our wetsuits are high quality manufactured by Tikki and Gul.

They include a full range of sizes in both summer and winter steamers.

Outdoor Adventure has been an RYA recognised centre since 1981.

Our Sailing location – Tamar lake.

This is a superb location for inland windsurfing. It is a spacious, uncrowded lake approximately 81 acres. It is in an ideal location to pick up the best of the prevailing winds and is only a short drive from the Centre. Facilities include Changing rooms, hot showers, lecture room and cafe. It also has rescue boats which are manned by our instructors.

Your windsurfing coaches

We have a team of 4 Qualified and experienced coaches able to teach up to level 3.

They have safety boat qualifications and are qualified first aiders.  Group sizes are kept small so everyone receives individual attention and quality coaching.

They will give you informal talks on the best equipment to buy, rigging your kit through to weather and sailing locations.

As well as excellent coaches they are keen windsurfers and you can catch them out in the surf carving around and wave riding right outside the Centre!

Training and assessment of RYA awards

Whilst windsurfing with us you have the opportunity to gain windsurfing awards. Our team can train and assess for RYA levels 1 – 3

Equipment used

To make life easier we have all of our beginner kit already rigged so you can start windsurfing straight away!

We have a selection of boards ideal for the levels at which we teach from wide style beginner boards through to BIC wide style improver boards and High Fly Magnums and Maxx,s. Our range of Tushingham and Bic sails start from 4.5 – and go up to 8.8 metres.

Group Leaders

If you are a group leader Outdoor Adventure will support you from the word go and make life as easy as possible for you to organise the event – from your initial enquiry through to booking, choosing the activities, sorting out the payments, room sharing, meal choices etc.

We also welcome group leaders down for a free visit to check us out before booking.

Day programme

You can choose from any of our activities listed to make up your weekend.

Depending on the size of the group you can opt to do the activity all together or we may split the group up to give you more activity options or for safety reasons. If we do break into smaller groups it will still just be your group members.

Evening programme

We can put on things in the evenings such as BBQ’s, cliff top fires with acoustic music, beach games, party nights or you can just do your own thing and enjoy our ‘Boardriders Bar’ and fantastic setting.

Out on the town!

There is a great pub and nightclub 5 minutes walk from the Centre and Bude is only 4 miles away with lots more bars and clubs. We can drop you off and pick you up in our minibuses if you want.

Sole occupancy

This is a great opportunity if you can get 30 people together.

You can have the run of the place and all our equipment, minibuses and staff will be there just for you! We can keep the bar open until you want it shut!!
